Work-Life Balance & Schedule Flexibility: Standard schedule of 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., with Saturday rotation approximately every fifth week (and a weekday off in exchange).

Position Overview

Under the supervision of the Diagnostic Radiology/Breast Imaging Manager and/or Assistant Chief Technologist, the Mammography Technologist performs a wide variety of technical and professional duties utilizing complex imaging equipment to obtain high-quality mammographic images for interpretation by radiologists.

The Mammography Technologist promotes service excellence in every patient interaction and supports departmental goals related to quality, safety, efficiency, and patient satisfaction. To meet the operational needs of the department, staff may be assigned to work at any YNHHS Diagnostic Radiology location, regardless of their primary worksite.

• Mammography Imaging & Technical Excellence

  • Perform high-quality mammographic examinations using appropriate age-specific standards to support accurate diagnostic interpretation.
  • Verify patient identity and requested examination prior to every procedure.
  • Position patients appropriately and obtain diagnostic-quality images while ensuring patient comfort and safety.
  • Maintain compliance with all ACR, FDA/MQSA, organizational, and departmental standards.

  Equipment Operation & Quality Assurance

  • Operate mammography and computer-based imaging systems to ensure optimal technical performance.
  • Perform daily quality control inspections of mammography equipment, ultrasound equipment (where applicable), procedural equipment, RIS systems, PenRad, and PACS.
  • Identify and promptly report equipment malfunctions and coordinate service or IT support as needed.
  • Support departmental readiness for accreditation and regulatory inspections.

  Patient Care & Service Excellence

  • Deliver compassionate, patient-centered care that promotes comfort, cooperation, safety, and satisfaction.
  • Thoroughly explain procedures and answer patient questions to reduce anxiety and improve the overall patient experience.
  • Address patient comfort concerns before and during imaging procedures.
  • Support departmental patient satisfaction goals and initiatives.

  Department Operations

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe exam environment.
  • Monitor inventory levels and communicate supply needs proactively.
  • Participate in workflow coordination to ensure efficient scheduling and patient throughput.
  • Provide professional, courteous interactions with patients, physicians, supervisors, and colleagues.

  Teamwork & Professional Development

  • Foster a collaborative team environment through professionalism and effective communication.
  • Participate in continuing education activities to maintain compliance with ACR, FDA/MQSA, ARRT, and state requirements.
  • Complete a minimum of five (5) Category A continuing education credits in mammography annually and maintain required documentation.
  • Support department initiatives focused on quality improvement and patient experience.

Education

• Graduate of an AMA-approved Radiologic Technology program required.
• Associate degree preferred.
• Bachelor's degree preferred.

Experience

• Demonstrated technical skills meeting entry-level standards for routine mammography.

Licensure & Certifications

• ARRT Registered Technologist in Radiography [RT(R)] required.
• Connecticut State Radiologic Technologist License required.
• CPR certification preferred.

Skills & Competencies

• Proficiency in routine breast imaging and screening mammography procedures.
• Working knowledge of PACS and radiology information systems.
• Strong organizational, communication, and customer service skills.
• Ability to provide compassionate patient care in a fast-paced clinical environment.
• Commitment to quality, safety, and regulatory compliance.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
