At Berco, we produce mission critical undercarriages for mining, construction, forestry and agriculture machinery. Together with our customers, we create long lasting solutions by combining know-how in design, forging, heat treatment, machining and assembling. We provide undercarriage components to OEMs(Original Equipment Manufacturers) for the first fit of the machines as well as the service parts to OEMs and to the independent Aftermarket.


Your responsibilities

The Safety Manager reports to the VP of Operations and is responsible for ensuring a safe environment for employees, operational compliance with environmental regulations, and fostering a safety culture.

  • Ensures that safety, including both process safety and occupational health and safety, is reinforced as the highest priority in conducting plant operations
  • Keeps up to date on related policies, procedures, and information; conducts necessary audits and reporting
  • Provides required training and acts as a safety coach

Standards of Performance

  • Advise management on safety matters
  • Review plant operation and employee management of safety through physically walking and observing
  • Conduct behavior-based audits, train other auditors and monitor program
  • Annually review and ensure implementation of safety protocols; implement new protocol as necessary
  • Ensure new plant machinery meets applicable requirements; follow up with maintenance regarding safety work orders and PMs affecting safety permits
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure safety requirements are being addressed
  • Conduct trainings on safety policies and procedures; facilitate safety portion of new hire orientation; maintain training matrices
  • Complete incident investigations, including post risk assessment, record keeping and documentation
  • Conduct risk assessments and develop corrective actions, including ergonomic assessment of workplace
  • Oversee fire alarm and fire protection system, and insurance-related risk management
  • Manage purchase requisitions for safety related materials, equipment, and services
  • Manage Industrial Hygiene Program
  • Coordinate HAZCOM Program and SDS
  • Act as Emergency Preparedness and Emergency Action Plan Coordinator
  • Other responsibilities and projects as specified

Your profile

Education/Credentials/Certifications

    • Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Health and Safety or related field, will consider equivalent experience and education
    • OSHA 10 certification
    • OSHA 30 card recommended
    • Internal auditor - ISO 14001, ISO 50001 (completion required within 12 months)

Length of Experience

    • Minimum 3 years of experience as a safety professional in heavy industrial and manufacturing environment

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

    • Well-versed in applicable standards: OSHA
    • Knowledge of safety regulations and practices
    • Knowledge of environmental regulations and practices
    • Ability to lead through others and build cross-functional teams
    • Understanding of manufacturing facilities and machining processes; familiarity with shop floor
    • Knowledge of industrial and office ergonomics
    • Ability to foster and stress the importance of a safety culture
    • Excellent oral and written language skills
    • Excellent problem solving and reasoning ability
    • Ability to follow step-by-step procedures
    • Excellent interpersonal skills
    • Ability to prioritize and reprioritize based on changing nature of risks
    • Ability to use gauges and other measurement tools
    • Excellent computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office
