SUMMARY



Responsible for leading a team of Underwriters on the delivery of profitable Commercial Lines risk selection by communicating underwriting vision and objectives, directing team operations, mentoring lower level managers and team members, and communicating risk assessment best practices to align underwriting strategy with portfolio growth goals.




ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES



Enhances Commercial Lines Underwriting portfolio by measuring, analyzing and communicating agency performance to ensure alignment with business strategy, retention of key partners and acquisition of desired business;



Manages profitability by identifying, measuring, managing and accounting for risks through team of
Underwriters to achieve business plan profit goals;



Recommends and implements business growth initiatives to achieve business plan goals;



Cultivates efficient team functioning by managing resources and recommending and implementing needed changes to fill in gaps and ensure streamlined strategy execution;



Influences team by modeling strong relationship building with key stakeholders to encourage team to utilize timely and effective communication and deliver personalized and quality service;



Builds relationships and facilitates Commercial Lines projects by sharing expertise with peers and senior leaders, guiding product review/launch process, leading agency and Underwriter training, resolving escalated issues and monitoring agency level impact of change to ensure department initiatives enhance the business;



Guides key stakeholder decision-making and understanding of operations by sharing underwriting technical expertise with team, agents and regulators and clarifying complex escalated inquiries to transfer information and cultivate a strong department reputation;



Manages a performance enhancement culture by actively coaching and mentoring direct reports, providing regular feedback and developing employees for wider roles and responsibilities to foster professional growth and development;



Manages budgeted resources by anticipating expenditures, accurately forecasting resource needs/costs and properly accounting for expenses to meet requirements and achieve fiscal responsibility;



Provides a positive environment by modeling cultural expectations and guiding leaders to reward performance and value "can do" people, accountability, diversity and inclusion, flexibility, continuous improvement, collaboration, creativity and fun;



Adopts company values in personal work behaviors, decision-making, contributions and interpersonal interactions; manages own career development by soliciting feedback and valuing other perspectives;



Complies with agency management system data standards and data integrity (enters and maintains complete and accurate information);



Occasional travel (approx. 15% - 20% a year);



Other duties as assigned.




QUALIFICATIONS


EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE



Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience



Ten (10) or more years related work experience



Extensive property and casualty insurance underwriting experience



CPCU license



Certificate of General Insurance (INS)



Associate in Insurance Production (AIP)




SKILLS



Excellent verbal and written communication skills



Advanced working knowledge of commercial lines products and concepts, underwriting processes and procedures, laws and regulations related to area of responsibility, and terminology, concepts and principles related to strategic planning



Self-motivated, excellent attention to detail and ability to multi-task while managing priorities



Ability to adapt and be flexible in a complex changing environment



Proficient in Microsoft Office products
