Job Responsibilities

Strategic Planning

  • Drive and coordinate the annual and multi-year strategic planning process with the Executive Council, business unit leaders, and functional leaders.
  • Define templates and frameworks to be used during the strategic planning process
  • Establish strategic plan process milestones
  • Provide support and coaching to business leaders during planning process
  • Constructively challenge the strategic plan
  • Identify emerging trends, disruptive technologies, competitive threats, and growth opportunities
  • Recommend enterprise priorities that align with shareholder value creation
  • Assess past performance trends and suggest targets
  • Monitor and report on the execution of the strategic plan - assess performance vs targets
  • Evaluate progress and recommend adjustments as necessary

Market & Competitive Intelligence

  • Conduct comprehensive market, competitor, and industry analyses
  • Assess macroeconomic, regulatory, technological, and geopolitical trends impacting the business
  • Develop scenarios and strategic options to inform decision-making

Business Development

  • Collaborate with Koppers employees to uncover strategic opportunities
  • Keep Koppers leadership team abreast of changes in the industries we operate in and the impact of events on the business climate
  • Identify and evaluate key business opportunities
  • Develop detailed and prioritized lists of potential acquisition and partnership candidates and prepare short overviews of target companies for quick assessment of the target
  • Analyze potential acquisition prospects by gathering information about growth, competitors, and market share possibilities. Review company fundamentals and financial statements. Assign value to target companies based on asset worth and the comparable worth of similar companies
  • Develop financial models to drive decision making on an acquisition
  • Leads due diligence for acquisitions
  • Provide analytical support during the M&A and integration processes
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in business, finance or related fields required. MBA preferred.
  • 8 to 10 years of financial or accounting experience in a manufacturing environment required
  • 5 years of strategic planning preferred
  • Collaborative leadership across matrix organizations with an ability to influence leaders without formal authority
  • Knowledge of strategic planning processes and fundamentals
  • Ability to manage and coordinate processes
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • In-depth knowledge of financial statements / models
  • Executive leadership and presence to engage in discussions with key targets and senior leadership level
  • Ability to convey complex concepts simply and concisely
  • Ability to handle pressure and meet deadlines
  • Demonstrated ability to consistently pull a wide variety of data into a well-constructed and supportable analysis
  • Ability to work with marketing teams and business leaders to develop growth strategies
  • Attention to detail and excellent organization skills
  • Excellent presentation skills including strong oral and writing skills and ability to clearly communicate compelling messages to senior managers
  • Ability to travel up to 15%
