THE POSITION

Are you ready to apply your analytical skills and financial abilities as an Accountant 2 with the Department of Human Services? This role allows you to support major programs by reviewing financial data and helping ensure accuracy in payments to counties. You will work with many offices and partners while gaining valuable experience in state financial operations. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position supports the financial administration of grants and program payments by analyzing reports, managing allocations, and ensuring compliance with policies and regulations. This role helps maintain accuracy, accountability, and consistency across multiple statewide programs. As an Accountant 2, you will perform the following duties:

  • Financial Analysis: Review expenditure reports, evaluate allocations, and examine regulations to determine financial impacts
  • Payment Processing: Compute payment amounts, post entries in SAP software, and resolve issues related to grant payments
  • Report Development: Create financial reporting forms, instructions, and account structures to support program needs
  • Quality Assurance: Perform checks for completeness, accuracy, and consistency across county financial submissions
  • Data Management: Assemble fiscal and statistical data to prepare reports, maintain databases, and support informational requests
  • Technical Assistance: Provide guidance to department, county, and provider officials on financial regulations and procedures

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
  • Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. During your first week, you will report to the office in person at least four days for training, followed by two in-office days per week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year as an Accountant 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Two years of professional accounting experience, and graduation from a four-year college or university, including or supplemented by fifteen credits in accounting.
  • Four years of bookkeeping experience and fifteen college credits in accounting may be substituted for college graduation. A Master's degree in Accounting or a related field may be substituted for one year of general work experience.
