Overview
The Emma Eccles Jones College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences is seeking a Compliance Officer SR as the principal leader for healthcare compliance, privacy, and security. The position is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing a comprehensive healthcare compliance program that promotes adherence to HIPAA, HITECH, applicable federal and state privacy laws, and University policies governing the protection of health information. The position is housed in the college's Sorenson Legacy Foundation Center for Clinical Excellence, which serves as a clinical training site for graduate students.

Responsibilities
  • Directs the day-to-day administration of the SCCE's HIPAA Compliance Program and Privacy Program
  • Ensures compliance with HIPAA, HITECH, applicable state privacy laws, Medicare requirements, and other healthcare regulations
  • Oversees implementation and administration of the HIPAA Privacy Rule and Security Rule across all CEHHS's Health Care Components
  • Develops and administers compliance monitoring and auditing activities designed to identify and mitigate regulatory risk
  • Oversees or coordinates billing compliance audits and monitoring to evaluate compliance with payer requirements and internal policies
  • Develops and delivers initial and ongoing privacy, security, and compliance education for faculty, staff, students, and workforce members
  • Oversees compliance reviews of Business Associate Agreements and other contracts involving protected health information
  • Supervises compliance support staff, overseeing hiring, training, coaching, performance management, and professional development


Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Healthcare Management, or a related field plus a minimum of four (4) years of relevant professional experience, or additional education.
  • Professional healthcare compliance certification (CHPC, CHC, or equivalent) or the ability to obtain such certification within six months of hire.
  • Experience in healthcare compliance, privacy, administration, or operations, or in a related field
  • Experience interpreting healthcare regulations and implementing compliance programs
  • Experience conducting compliance investigations, audits, and risk assessments


Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Health Law, or a related field
  • Experience serving as a HIPAA Privacy Officer and/or HIPAA Security Officer
  • Experience developing organizational compliance programs
  • Supervisory experience
  • Experience in an academic healthcare environment


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Advanced knowledge of HIPAA, HITECH, healthcare privacy, information security, and healthcare regulatory requirements.
  • Advanced knowledge of healthcare billing compliance, Medicare, Medicaid, commercial payer requirements
  • Knowledge of healthcare fraud, waste, and abuse prevention principles and compliance auditing methodologies.
  • Experience conducting compliance investigations, risk assessments, audits, and corrective action planning.
  • Ability to develop policies, procedures, and compliance guidance.
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to build collaborative relationships
  • Ability to manage multiple complex priorities while exercising sound judgment and discretion.
