Controller Location: New Providence, NJ Schedule: Hybrid after approximately 6 months of onboarding Employment Type: Temp-to-Hire About the Opportunity Our client is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Controller to lead accounting operations and financial reporting for a growing organization. Reporting directly to the COO, this is a key leadership opportunity for a hands-on accounting professional who can step in quickly, stabilize the accounting function, and help strengthen processes and controls. The ideal candidate will bring a CPA, strong technical accounting expertise, and prior experience within a manufacturing, distribution, or logistics environment. Key Responsibilities Lead day-to-day accounting operations, including AP, AR, payroll, general ledger, inventory, and fixed assets Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes Prepare and review financial statements, account reconciliations, and financial performance analysis Ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable federal, state, and sales & use tax requirements Maintain and strengthen internal controls and support external audits Oversee customer credit approvals and 1099 compliance Analyze inventory valuation, aging, and margin performance Lead, mentor, and develop accounting staff Identify opportunities to improve accounting workflows, systems, and processes Partner with the COO and leadership team to provide financial insights and support business decision-making Work directly with external CPA firms and auditors as needed Qualifications Active CPA required Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership responsibility Previous experience in manufacturing, distribution, or logistics Strong technical knowledge of GAAP and internal controls QuickBooks experience required Advanced Excel skills Experience managing audits and working directly with external CPA firms Proven ability to lead and develop accounting teams Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills Ability to translate financial data into meaningful business insights Comfortable managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment Hands-on approach with the ability to immediately contribute to the accounting function Work Environment This position will initially be onsite in New Providence, NJ to allow the new Controller to become fully integrated with the team and business. Once the individual is up to speed, the role will transition to a hybrid schedule of 3 days onsite and 2 days remote. Why Consider This Opportunity?
