6 West - Neuroscience is a 30-bed adult acute care Neuroscience unit at UVA Health specializing in the treatment of patients with complex neurological conditions and diagnoses. The unit is recognized for its commitment to quality improvement initiatives, multidisciplinary collaboration, shared governance, and ongoing professional development. Position: Charge Nurse The Charge Nurse is an experienced nursing professional who demonstrates advanced clinical expertise, leadership capabilities, and strong interpersonal skills. This role supports both the clinical and operational needs of the inpatient unit while serving as a key resource for staff and patients in partnership with unit leadership. Role Overview & Daily Responsibilities The Charge Nurse is responsible for facilitating and supporting the daily clinical and operational functions of the unit, including: Coordinating patient care delivery Providing leadership and support to nursing staff Collaborating with management on unit operations Ensuring high-quality patient outcomes and safety standards Supporting patient flow and staffing needs Serving as a clinical resource and mentor for team members Promoting effective communication among interdisciplinary team members Required Skills & Qualifications Demonstrated clinical nursing expertise Strong leadership abilities Excellent interpersonal and communication skills Ability to support daily clinical and operational needs of an inpatient unit Experience collaborating with managers and interdisciplinary teams Commitment to patient-centered care and quality outcomes Preferred Skills & Qualifications Prior neuroscience, neurology, or acute care nursing experience Experience leading teams or serving in a charge nurse capacity Interest in quality improvement initiatives Participation in shared governance and professional practice activities Neurological nursing offers the opportunity to make a significant impact on patients' lives during critical moments. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Education: Bachelor's of Science in Nursing or currently enrolled in an accredited nursing BSN/MSN program that will be completed within 5 years of hire. Experience: RN Clinician 2 or higher who has been employed on the unit for 6 months or has had previous Charge Nurse experience from another unit/organization. Licensure: Licensed to Practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia. American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS certification required. PHYSICAL DEMANDS Job requires standing for prolonged periods, frequently traveling and bending/stooping. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift/push/pull 20 - 50lbs. May be exposed to chemicals, blood/body fluids and infectious disease. The pay range for this role is $46.08 - $62.15 hourly. Individual compensation will be determined by the selected candidate's qualifications, previous work experience, and/or education.
