Wage:

$16.35 hourly

Benefits:

WA State Paid Medical Leave - 1 hour for every 40 hours worked.

Position Summary:

Provide classroom coverage and support to the early learning classrooms at Carroll Children's Center, Growing Hope Child & Family Development Center and Christ the Teacher Preschool. The role of the substitute teacher is to be available on a daily basis to cover for a classroom position. The substitute teacher makes themselves available to work in any and all classrooms. Monday through Friday between the hours of 7:00- 5:45 when the childcare centers are open. The substitute teacher supports the classroom team with implementing a developmentally appropriate classroom that supports Children's language, physical, cognitive, and social-emotional development.

Responsibilities:

Under the direction of the assigned Lead Teacher, create and maintain a safe and healthy environment



  • Report needed repairs and maintenance to assigned classroom staff.
  • Provide a safe, developmentally appropriate indoor and outdoor learning environment
  • Apply health standards and care for the children and classroom


Under the direction of the assigned Lead Teacher, support with planning & provide curriculum through normal care giving routines



  • Establish a learning environment to build and enhance each child's self-esteem and positive self-concept
  • Provide activities and opportunities that encourage curiosity, creativity, exploration and problem solving appropriate to the developmental level and learning style of each child
  • Implement positive guidance practices that teach and meet the individual temperaments of each child.


Maintain open, friendly and cooperative verbal and written communication with each Childs' family

Under the direction of the assigned Lead Teacher, foster positive guidance, engagement and communication in the classroom



  • Guide and sustain positive interactions between children and adults.
  • Maintain an atmosphere that encourages open communication with children and adults.
  • Provide opportunities and support for children to understand, acquire, and use verbal and non-verbal means of communicating thoughts and feelings.


Maintain confidentiality of children, families, and staff

Continue professional development



  • Participate in required training requirements according to licensing standards.
  • Participate in scheduled supervision, required meetings and trainings


Participate in Center activities and other duties as requested


Qualifications

Job Requirements:

The following requirements are those that are normally required for performance of this position. Physical Requirements:

This position normally requires the physical demands of standing, walking, bending, lifting or performing other work requiring medium physical exertion, talking and hearing and adequate vision on a regular basis to perform the job requirements. These physical demands are required up to 95% of the time.

Non-Physical Requirements:

Education



  • ECE Initial Certificate or CDA, preferred.


  • High School Diploma or GED


Experience



  • 1 years' experience working with children in a formal or non-formal setting.


Special Skills



  • Preschool/Infant - Toddler Classroom Experience
  • Training in Creative Curriculum
  • Basic computer skills


Licensure, Registration, Certification



  • Valid food handler's card
  • Valid First Aid and CPR card
  • Verification of a negative TB test
  • HIV/AIDS Training
  • STARS Training
  • Child Care Basics Training
  • Valid WA driver's license, and minimum required liability insurance for WA State


Employment is conditional upon:



  • Being cleared by criminal background check and fingerprinting through MERIT.
