Position Summary

The Operations Specialist will oversee the operations of the Open Recreational Program and Recreational Services Office. This individual will enforce the policies and procedures of Johnson Center and oversee the day-to-day operations of the Recreational Services office. This includes:

  • Scheduling of student employees, cash management, payroll and process development.
  • Addressing various building/equipment issues.
  • Ensuring student employees provide customer service, while maintaining a clean, and culture friendly environment.
  • Ensuring acceptable professionalism and job performance during day-to-day operations.
  • Recruiting, hiring and training student employees.
  • Training and preparing student employees for acquisition of student supervisor title. Maintaining accountability with student supervisor staff.
  • Overseeing all aspects of the gym team.
  • Promoting and scheduling all open rec hours; managing and staffing office and kiosks.
  • Monitoring the usage of the facility.
  • Providing regular updates to supervisor and recommendations for improvements.
  • Maintaining files and records and preparing reports as necessary.
  • Planning and executing new projects. Creating and maintaining comprehensive project plans and budgets to include short and long term milestones. Using clear comprehensive reports including creation and use of tables, charts and graphics to summarize results.
  • Managing inventory, storage, and maintenance of recreational spaces and equipment.
  • Ensuring facilities are well-maintained.
  • Providing risk management oversight to recreational program operations and implements procedures to ensure the safety of participants and employees.
  • Ensuring safety guidelines are adhered to and reporting safety issues to appropriate personnel and recommending improvements.
  • Overseeing equipment room - rental of sport equipment, laundry (towels, etc.).
  • Additional Coordination between Athletics, Health Exercise and Sports Sciences and Recreational Services

Conditions of Employment

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; at least 7 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.



Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Higher Education, Recreation, Sports Management, or related field
  • Experience with student organization programming, risk management, and fiscal management
  • Proven effective leadership, management, and mentoring for a student development focus program
  • Current certifications in CPR, First Aid, & AED or ability to obtain within six months of hire
